Regular Services:

8:30 a.m. Communion Service in the Chapel (September – May)* This early service is set in our Chapel, located on the State Street side of the building, and seats approximately 100 people. In this intimate setting, worshipers gather for a 50-minute service that includes the weekly celebration of the Lord’s Supper and organ accompaniment to traditional hymns. Join us afterward for the Sunday School hour, which starts at 9:30 a.m. and continues until 10:15 a.m.

10:30 a.m. Traditional Service in the Sanctuary (September – May)* This traditional service fills our Sanctuary, which can be entered through doors on St. Charles Avenue or State Street and seats around 500 people. A full Chancel Choir is seated in the balcony above the congregation (led by Director of Music, Steven Blackmon) as they round out the sounds of the congregation in song. Join us after the service for coffee and snacks in Frampton Fellowship Hall.

Summer Sundays (June – August)* During the summer, we worship in a shorter, unified format, one service at 9:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. In order to give our adult and children’s Sunday School teachers a break, we take summer off for Sunday School but we provide a time of exploration and learning for children through 3rd grade during the majority of the 9:30 worship service. Willing adults are invited to volunteer to help with this special time.

*Childcare is provided for all services for children 3-years-old and under in the classroom off of Frampton Fellowship Hall.

Special Services:

Christmas Eve Services – 4:00pm: Family service, with Christmas story tableau and lesson for children; 7:00pm: Lessons and Carols, with communion and full choir

White Gift Service – Each December, the White Gift Service is a time of worship especially focused on the giving of Christmas presents to children in need throughout our community. In late November, a tree is set up in the main hall, full of children’s names, ages and gift requests. SCAPC members and visitors choose the paper ornaments with specific names and then bring the requested gifts to the worship service on the White Gift Sunday designated for that year.

Ash Wednesday Service – Ash Wednesday at noon in the Chapel, with Communion and Imposition of Ashes.

Easter Week – Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services in the Sanctuary. Maundy Thursday commemorates Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples, while Good Friday is a short service of prayer and contemplation, honoring the darkness of Christ’s death on the cross. Click here to read more about the history and meaning of the services.

Sunday after Christmas unday before Mardi Gras – We switch to one service in the Sanctuary at 9:30 a.m.

Sunday before Mardi Gras – We switch to one service in the Sanctuary at 8:30 a.m.

Funerals – If you are a church member and would like to talk with someone about an upcoming funeral, or are planning a funeral and need assistance, please feel free to contact the church office and ask for one of the pastors.

Special Assistance:

Assistance for those with physical impairments – Handicapped parking is available on St. Charles Avenue in front of the church and along the State Street side of the church. There are handicap-accessible entrances on the State Street side of the church.

Assistance for those who are hearing or visually impaired – For all of our services, large print hymnals and hearing devices are available. Simply ask an usher for these materials, and one will be provided. Our sound system is extremely specialized and uses highly directionalized sound. This means that, at times, one spot in the sanctuary may be more attuned to the speakers than another. We strongly encourage those with disabilities to sit closer to the front to better participate in the service.

Worshiping with Children:

At SCAPC, we welcome children into our sanctuary. Their presence in worship comes out of the Biblical conviction that children are an integral part of the worshiping community. Additionally, we believe that worship is one of the fundamental ways that children learn what it means to be a Christian. There are a number of ways we include children in worship:

• Worship packets are available in the narthex (ask an usher if you don’t see them out) to help curb restlessness in young worshippers.
• Children’s Choirs meet often and participate in worship regularly.
• A dedicated Children’s sermon, offered each week, designates a worship time specifically for kids, reminding them not only of their importance in worship, but also teaching them that this gospel message has relevance for their lives.
• Seating in the Narthex or Library, with the service sounds piped into that area, is an alternative space for families with young children.
